Coastal Urban Masterplan Organized by Canals and Gardens

Canal View Precinct is a waterfront urban masterplan architecture project located in Abu Dhabi, conceived as a coastal district shaped by canals, landscape systems, and walkable public life. The masterplan organizes urban form around a network of waterways that structure movement, views, and social interaction across the site.

The design establishes a clear spatial hierarchy through linear canals that guide circulation and define neighborhoods. These water corridors are complemented by shaded pedestrian routes, planted courtyards, and public gathering spaces that encourage everyday walkability and outdoor activity. The result is a district where movement is intuitive and closely connected to landscape.

Walkable Districts and Public Life Framework

Residential clusters are arranged to support human-scale living while maintaining strong relationships with public space. Schools, gardens, and community amenities are positioned within short walking distances, reinforcing a cohesive neighborhood structure. At the waterfront edge, terraces and open spaces step down toward the water, creating areas for leisure, recreation, and civic events.

Landscape, Water, and Residential Integration Strategy

Landscape plays a central role in shaping the character of the precinct. Native planting, tree-lined paths, and open green areas moderate the coastal climate while enhancing environmental comfort. Architecture and landscape operate together as a continuous system rather than separate elements.

As an example of coastal urban masterplan development, Canal View Precinct reflects Sama Karim Design Studios’ approach to waterfront urban masterplan architecture—where water, movement, and public life are integrated to create a calm, livable, and resilient urban environment.
