Design shapes how we experience the world.

Circulation as an Urban and Social Experience
Nexa Promenade is a public promenade architecture project located along Vancouver’s Coal Harbour, conceived as a social spine that transforms circulation into an active urban experience. Rather than functioning as a purely transitional element, the promenade is designed to guide movement, encourage interaction, and support everyday community rituals.
Architecturally, the promenade is shaped as a continuous sculptural walkway that links amenities, leisure spaces, and garden pockets into a unified spatial sequence. Fluid geometry and carefully modulated edges create moments of pause, gathering, and visual engagement, allowing movement to become both purposeful and experiential.
Sculptural Walkway and Spatial Continuity
The design prioritizes clarity and accessibility. Wide walking surfaces, gentle curves, and clearly articulated transitions ensure intuitive navigation while maintaining a strong visual identity. The promenade accommodates diverse users, supporting walking, social encounters, and informal activities within a single cohesive framework.
Community Interaction and Waterfront Integration
Materiality and form reinforce the promenade’s role as a public destination. Sculpted surfaces, integrated lighting, and transparent ground-level interfaces enhance safety, comfort, and visual continuity throughout the day and evening. The promenade operates as an extension of the surrounding urban fabric rather than a detached architectural object.
As an example of Vancouver waterfront public space design, Nexa Promenade reflects Sama Karim Design Studios’ approach to public promenade architecture—where circulation, spatial expression, and community life are integrated into a single, legible urban experience.
